SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to exchange protected information between a client and a web server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy users prefer SSH due to the higher security level. The connection is created and the commands are delivered using a command line. The offered options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files can be relocated or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are a lot more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be installed plus much more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, due to the fact that full root access is required and all the other clients on that server will be affected. Although SSH is employed predominantly with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.
SSH Telnet in Hosting
SSH access is featured with all Linux hosting service that we offer you. With some of them, it is offered by default, while with others it is an optional upgrade you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your web hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access through the section related to it where you will also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could choose the password that you will use and, if needed, you'll be able to change it with a couple of clicks from the same location. All commands which may be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is included as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you could add it through the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. Either way, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the feature with only one mouse click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you will see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can type the password that you'd like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you can also change it as often as you want. A full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
When you get a new VPS server from us, it will come with full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature is included by default with all plans, so you shall not have to activate or upgrade anything. Your server will be set up soon after you order it and the minute you receive the Welcome email with the login details, you could connect via the server’s primary IP address and start working. As the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there will be no restrictions in terms of the commands you can use. You will have full root access, so that you could set up and run any app that can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software running on it.
